105, Sundance Boulevard (105 songs from movies awarded at Sundance Film Festival)

The 2011 Sundance Film Festival kicks off today. This is a tribute to some of the greatest movies screened at the Utah festival in the last 25 years. And, especially, to some of the great music in them. Digging on Wikipedia and IMDB archives, I made a playlist of songs from awarded movies I found on Spotify. Below, you have the full list, year by year, with movie titles and prizes. One song each movie (only exception for the nice Dig! rockumentary: I HAD to feature both Dandy Warhols and The Brian Jonestown Massacre).

Ah, there is also a bonus playlist: another little one for soundtrack lovers. A collection of nineteen full movie scores or soundtracks (you can archive it next to The Greatest Indie Soundtrack of the World collection I made a couple of months ago).

Enjoy!

Music from Mad Men (TV Series)

Just four years after common people, I finally started watching Mad Men. And I couldn't resist spotifyin' it. The series is set in the 60s, so it is most of the soundtrack. Songs lists are from three different sources: AMC and Mad Men Songs for seasons 1-3. This Top Idol post for season 4. I made a single playlist for each season and a big mammoth with all of them. Enjoy!

Slant Best Singles of the 90s

Ah, the 90s! Best music decade of the universe. Well, if you were teenager/twentysomething at that time, you can understand me. :o)
Slant Magazine spent this whole week ranking its best 100 singles of those years. I diligently spotified the chart. Here it comes, for a hot freezing winter friday of pure nostalgia, remembering when you were a creep and a loser, but full of unfinished sympathy and of lovely smelly teen spirit. Enjoy!
(99% of the songs available on Spotify, wow)

33 Revolutions per Minute - A History of Protest Songs (january 2011 update)

Last november I started this strange experiment of a playlist about a blog. The blog is 33 Revolutions per Minute, by Guardian's music writer Dorian Lynskey, who's soon gonna publish a book with the same title. It's a blog about protest songs. Not just a historical one: it filters the facts of today's world through musical lenses. Lynskey writes about barricades in London, Kanye West new album, Jareed Lee Loughner's attack in Arizona, discussions about new and wealthy brit rock, etc. etc. And he always makes connections with and between music. I put in a playlist all the songs he mentioned. From Rolling Stones to Dead Kennedys, from Pulp to Specials, from Kanye West to Gil Scott-Heron, from Rage Against the Machine to Cage Against the Machine, from Limp Bizkit to Primal Scream, from The Smiths to Vampire Weekend. Let's say it's the beat of the blog. Enjoy! And don't forget to read the original posts on 33 Revolutions per Minute.

THE PLAYLIST
(22 songs out of 25, 88%, about 1 hour)

The Complete Guide To Downloading #3 - Locations

Dear old vintage iPods, dear old vintage Gallaghers

These playlists are little, but good.
In 2005, people from Q, Mojo and Kerrang! allied to publish The Complete Guide To Downloading, a 150-pages magazine filled with playlists about... everything. It was a fantastic guide for the downloading era. I think it's definitely worth in the age of streaming, too.

Today I spotified three playlists from the "Locations" section.
Enjoy!

Mucchio Classic Rock #11 - Hardcore-Punk USA (1980/1983)

Social distorted mommy's little monsters

What:
Eleventh rock history lesson, courtesy of italian magazine Il Mucchio and its old Classic Rock special features (published in Italy in the 1990s). After Punk, New Wave, Dark/Gothic, Hard Rock, Psychedelia, Power Pop, Canterbury, Reggae, Krautrock and White Man's Blues, this time we pay tribute to American Hardcore-Punk from the 1980s. Maybe the only genre whose mammoth playlist can feature 219 songs in just 6 hours. Enjoy!
