The Guardian Top 40 Albums of 2014

Another chart from a big one, UK The Guardian. And another chart with not many surprises: St. Vincent is #1, The War on Drugs #2, FKA Twigs #3, Aphex Twin #4, Caribou #5... The only non-predictable artist of the Top 10 is La Roux at #6. There is just one album not available on Spotify and that one is rather predictable, too: Taylor Swift's 1989. Interesting to notice how The Guardian writers generally rejected the "britpop solo singers formerly known as britpop band singers" category: Damon Albarn suffers at #28, while neither Morrissey or Thom Yorke entered the chart.

Enjoy!

The Guardian Best Albums of 2013

Recently outdone by Drake (songs) and Vampire Weekend (albums) in Pitchfork charts, Kanye gets a energizing end of the week, thanks to British The Guardian, that just picked Yeezus as best album of 2013. Runners up are John Grant's Pale Green Ghosts (more appreciated in Europe than in the US) and Daft Punk's Random Access Memories. If Pitchfork snubbed European darlings Arctic Monkeys, The Guardian's retaliation is heavy: no room for Arcade Fire in the Top 40.

Enjoy.

Stereogum's 40 Best New Bands of 2011

Her name is Laurel Halo. And she doesn't play indie folk.

From Stereogum: "Last year, right around the time summer turned to fall, we at Stereogum published our list of the 40 best new bands of the year. The idea of a “new” band is a pretty nebulous one, since many of the kids we listed were probably planning out their musical ventures in their basements since they were 11, but these were all artists who started to make a dent in our collective consciousness last year. This year, we’ve got another crop of 40 new artists who deserve your attention. So here we go again."

Yep, here we go again! I spotified Stereogum's list last year, and this is the 2011 version. With a big gain in percentage of artists available on Spotify: last year, it was only 52%. This year, even if many of them have not published an album yet, it's a good 77,5%. In the playlist, each artist gets one song (the one chosen by Stereogum, where available). Enjoy!

Spin The 40 Best Albums & The 20 Best Songs of 2010

Me unusual? Like the champion sings: fuck you.

What:
Let's Spin the black circle! The American monthly magazine published its top 40 albums and top 20 songs of the years. Here come the Spotify versions. As always, the advice is to listen to them while reading infos & mumblings on the magazine website.

Comments:
Interesting Robyn choice: while all the other EOY charts feature the "anthology" Body Talk, Spin picked the first EP Body Talk pt.1. Unusual Tracey Thorn choice, instead, in the songs chart.
