Smart Studios is the legendary recording studio based in Madison, Wisconsin that was owned by Butch Vig and Steve Marker. Nirvana's Nevermind, the Smashing Pumpkins' Gish, Death Cab for Cutie's Plans, plus records by Die Kreuzen, Killdozer, Archers of Loaf, Sparklehorse, Garbage, L7, Tegan and Sara, Against Me!, the Promise Ring, and many others were made there. Filmmaker Wendy Schneider is chronicling the studio's history in a new documentary called The Smart Studios Story. It features interviews with Dave Grohl, Billy Corgan, Shirley Manson, Vig, Death Cab's Chris Walla, Against Me!'s Laura Jane Grace, and others. Watch the trailer below. Schneider is currently seeking funding for the film via Kickstarter.

In this double playlist I collected dozens of Smart Studios recorded/mixed albums I found on Spotify. Source is a selected list of albums from Wikipedia. The first playlist is the full one (all albums, all songs). The second one is a 90-minute-long selection of songs (no more than two songs per album, three songs per artist).
