XX celebrate the Mercury
From Wikipedia: "The Mercury Prize is an annual music prize awarded for the best album from the United Kingdom and Ireland. It was established by the British Phonographic Industry and British Association of Record Dealers in 1992 as an alternative to the industry-dominated Brit Awards. (...) Nominations are chosen by a selected panel of musicians, music executives, journalists and other figures in the music industry in the UK and Ireland".
Few days ago the XX have been awarded with Mercury Prize 2010.
I must confess one thing. Though I was musically born with Achtung Baby and I grew with Kurt, Eddie and the other boys from the grunge generation, my musical heaven is the UK. Especially the UK of the late nineties and early naughties. Most of my favourite albums and artists have been shortlisted (and sometimes won) the Mercury Prize: Radiohead, Doves, Belle & Sebastian, Portishead, Massive Attack, Blur, Oasis, Coldplay, Verve, Elbow, Manic Street Preachers, PJ Harvey, Beth Orton, Franz Ferdinand, Gorillaz, Coral... The list is long. So, when I read the news about XX I decided to celebrate the prize with a Spotirama special. Not just one, but five playlists about it.
Here they come. Enjoy! :o)

The Complete Mercury Prize - Winners and Shortlisted Nominees, 1992-2010 (lite, one song each album)
(207 tracks out of 228, 90,78%)
This is a playlist I made for people who want just to get a taste of mercuryprized-oriented music. I selected one song (usually, the most famous) from each album of the previous playlist. Only exclusion, for length reasons: Mark-Anthony Turnage – Your Rockaby.
The Mercury Prize 69
(69 tracks, about 4 hours)
Last but not least, this is a personal playlist. I made it essentially for myself, choosing my favourite 69 songs from winners and shortlisted albums from 1992 to 2010 (no more than one track each album). Essentially, that's because I wanted a good jogging playlist, not too big, made only by songs that I really liked (and like) to hear. Maybe some of you share similar music tastes, who knows?
