NME 50 Best Tracks and 50 Best Albums of 2013

I think I smell a little disagreement with the Mercury Prize. NME picked just-nominated Arctic Monkeys' AM as #1 album of 2013, while Mercury Prize winner James Blake is relegated at the behind-The-Strokes bottom of the Top 50. Tracks race, instead, has a rather predictable French robotic winner. Three playlists: 50 Tracks, 50 Albums (full version), 50 Albums (3 tracks version).

Enjoy.

P.S. Complete series of Spotirama end-of-2013 playlists (with charts by Amazon, Jazzwise, Mojo, PopMatters, Pretty Much Amazing, Q, Renowned for Sound, Revolver, Rolling Stone, Rough Trade, Stereogum, Uncut, Zane Lowe) is here.

PopMatters The 75 Best Songs of 2013

November was an appetizer, December is the judgement month. The first big webzine speaking is PopMatters that today published its chart of The 75 Best Songs of 2013. #1 is Daft Punk's Get Lucky, and it's likely we'll find it on the top of many other lists. Some choices sound a bit non-conventional (I Wanna Be Yours as best track from Arctic Monkeys' Am, I Appear Missing from Queens of the Stone Age's Like Clockwork), some other may be indications for the upcoming Top Albums chart (four albums are present with two tracks: Haim's Days Are Gone, Kayne West's Jeezus, Okkervil River's The Silver Gymnasium, Vampire Weekend's Modern Vampires of the City). Finally, Spotify percentage is quite high: just two songs missing (see below for full data).

Enjoy.

P.S. Complete list of Spotirama end-of-2013 playlists is here (Mojo, Uncut, Q, Amazon, Zane Lowe, Rough Trade Shops...).

Uncut 80 Best New Albums of 2013

Another substantial end-of-year chart from the UK printed music press. This one comes from monthly magazine Uncut, it has been published on January 2014 issue and it is slightly bigger than average (80 albums). That means here you can find many titles excluded from other charts: for example, albums by Jonathan Wilson, Johnny Marr, Yo La Tengo, Okkervil River, Phoenix, Iron & Wine, Robyn Hitchcock and Sir Elton John (ranked in a not very royal #75 position). "Spotify Curse of the 2013 UK Charts" goes on: as already happened in Mojo's list (with Bill Callahan), also in this one the #1 album (My Bloody Valentine's mbv) is not available on the streaming service. All three big Spotify desaparecidos of the year (My Bloody Valentine, Bill Callahan, Roy Harper) are in the Top 10, with the fourth one, Atoms For Peace's Amok, at #27.  Some other albums are missing (full chart is below), but almost 90% are available.

Enjoy.

P.S. Complete Spotirama series of end-of-2013 playlist (Mojo, Q, Amazon, Zane Lowe, Rough Trade Shops...) is here
