NME's 50 Awesome Music Movies (a Spotify playlist version)

I haven't found it on Spotify... but there's no Garden State without New Slang.

NME's 50 Awesome Music Movies is what it promises: a chart of 50 awesome music movies.

"We've put together our pick of the greatest music films ever made", writes the Brit magazine. "And we're not just talking about rockumentaries and biopics – this list also encompasses any movie that is defined by its soundtrack. These are films for music fans to love. Hence you'll find Trainspotting rubbing shoulders with Control, Almost Famous celebrated alongside Meeting People Is Easy".

The only right and sane thing to do after reading this chart should be to download/buy the 50 movies and watch them all. Most of them are really fantastic. I think I'll do it. Right now, by the way, I tried to build a good spotiplaylist, too. One song for each movie. Whenever I found it, I chose the "best music moment" according to NME. If not available, I made alternate choices (example: Karen O's Where the Wild Things Are soundtrack is not available on Spotify, so I represented the movie with Daniel Johnston's original Worried Shoes, whose cover is included in the soundtrack).

I think the result is not bad, with some nice songs I haven't heard for a too long time (Sonic Youth's Superstar from Juno, Seu Jorge's Life on Mars? from Steve Zissou, Alice in Chains' Would? from definining-my-grunge-youth Singles...).

P.S. Playlist features 51 songs. Not 50. Why that? Because I definitely had to include both Not If You Were the Last Junkie on Earth and Not If You Were the Last Dandy on Earth from Dig!.

Coachella 2010 on Spotify (a 117-tracks sonic voyage to California)

Reading the Coachella 2010 line up I start salivating: Charlotte Gainsbourg, Fever Ray, Gorillaz, Hot Chip, Jonsi, Julian Casablancas, LCD Soundsystem, Muse, Owen Pallett, Pavement, Phoenix, Porcupine Tree, She & Him, The Dead Weather, The Raveonettes, The XX, Thom Yorke, Yann Tiersen... so many bands & artists I'd like to see!
Checking the Google Maps, though, I start to cry: so many kilometres & mountains & deserts & oceans that separate me from California...

Anyway, it's spring: too much sun and flowers to complaint. And there's always a way to sweeten the bitter pill. For example, listening to this rich Spotiplaylist with 117 tracks of artists playing at the upcoming festival. Enjoy!

Music from The O.C. - Season 1

Maybe I should change the name of this blog: from Spotirama to Spoteendrama.
The O.C. is a tv series that aired in the United States from august 2003 to february 2007. Music played a very important role in it, thanks to the work of supervisor Alexandra Patsavas. Along with Grey's Anatomy, it was The O.C. who likely brought indie-rock in the teenage world. Especially, the American one. As you can see from the playlist, there's no room for Christina, Britney or Beyoncé. Primadonnas here are Death Cab For Cutie, Eels, Dandy Warhols, Turin Brakes... and yes, Phantom Planet too.

This is the music from season 1 that I found on Spotify. Season 2-3-4 will follow. I found the complete track listing on this website.

Nuggets II: Original Artyfacts From the British Empire and Beyond, 1964-1969 (2001)

Info: «While the original Nuggets compilation concentrated on the American pop-rock scene, the second Nuggets shifted its focus to the rest of the world, collecting cuts from the UK (such as The Pretty Things and Small Faces), Canada (The Guess Who, The Haunted), Japan (The Mops), Australia (The Easybeats, The Masters Apprentices, Ronnie Burns), New Zealand (The La De Das, Chants R&B), Sweden (The Tages), Iceland (Thor's Hammer), The Netherlands (Q65, Cuby + Blizzards, Golden Earrings), Peru (We All Together), Brazil (Os Mutantes), Uruguay (Los Shakers), Czechoslovakia (The Matadors), Austria (The Slaves). The compilation was produced by music consultant Alec Palao and production coordinator Gary Stewart. The packaging includes a fully illustrated book, with the design of each individual CD resembling those of the late 1960s British record labels Deram, Reaction and Immediate, and Shel Talmy's Planet Records» (from Wikipedia).
