The 100 Greatest IDM Tracks (Fact)

Source: Fact
Wikipedia says "Intelligent dance music (commonly IDM) is a form of electronic music that emerged in the early 1990s. It was originally influenced by developments in underground dance music such as Detroit techno and various breakbeat styles that were emerging in the UK at that time. Stylistically, IDM tended to rely upon individualistic experimentation rather than adhering to musical characteristics associated with specific genres of dance music".

Who are the most important IDM artists? And which are the most representative songs?  Fact men John Twells and Joe Muggs compiled a gorgeous Top 100, that I just translated on Spotify. Unfortunately, many tracks are not available on the service, especially in the 51-100 section of the chart. You can find all of them (via YouTube) on Fact, where you can also read some notes each song.

Enjoy!

100 Best Scottish Albums (The Scotsman)

Today Scotland decides. And today Spotirama has decided to listen to Scotland. This 100 Best Scottish Albums has been compiled by The Scotsman in 2012 and updated in 2013. I don't agree with everything - no Franz Ferdinand at all? - but I'm happy I found some old friends I haven't heard for a while (The Beta Band, The Delgados) and some even older ones I just met for the first time (The Incredible String Band, Orange Juice). Go to The Scotsman website for some notes about each album (1-25, 26-50, 51-75, 76-100) and listen to the playlist below, in the usual double version: full albums or 3-tracks-each-album.

Enjoy!

Shortlisted covers (AltaFidelidad)

Let's fly to Mercury, again. We have the 2014 shortlist of the annual music prize for the best album from the United Kingdom and Ireland. Nominated albums are:

Anna Calvi – One Breath
Bombay Bicycle Club – So Long, See You Tomorrow
Damon Albarn – Everyday Robots

FKA twigs – LP1
GoGo Penguin – v2.0
Jungle – Jungle
Kate Tempest – Everybody Down

My heart says Damon Albarn. My mind suggests FKA twigs. Or is it the other way round? Anyway, all albums are available on Spotify: you can taste them and decide which is your loved one in the first playlist below. The other playlists are two mammoth I'm keeping updated for some years: a collection of all Mercury Prize winning albums in history (1992-2013) and an even bigger archive of all shortlisted albums (1992-2014). If you wanna make a real UK&Ireland sonic indigestion, be my guest!

(mammoth's complete lists are after the playlists)

Arcade Fire Reflektor Tour Complete Setlist

This evening, Arcade Fire wrapped up their extensive Reflektor world tour at the place where it all began: their hometown of Montreal, Quebec. Appearing at the city’s Parc Jean-Drapeau, the band performed a 21-song setlist that epitomized the entire tour: in addition to greatest hits and tracks from Reflektor, Arcade Fire reworked material on the spot (a slowed down version of “Empty Room”), unveiled unique medleys (“My Body is a Cage” into “Keep the Car Running)”, and covered a song regional to the city (Wolf Parade’s “I’ll Believe in Anything”). As a whole, the Reflektor tour featured 68 different songs over the course of its 74-date run.
Consequence of Sound listed all the songs. I spotified them, covers included (original versions). The result is a bizarre Arcade Fire Meets The World's Flying Circus. Hint: amazingly good to be shuffled.

Enjoy!
