The Oceanic 815 (a Spotify collection of all songs featured in Lost tv series)

Info: «Lost makes a very interesting use of music. Non-diegetic original sounds are composed by Oscar-winning Michael Giacchino, while most of the other tracks have a diegetic nature: we hear them, while the characters hear them too (on the radio, through speakers, sometimes actually singing themselves the tunes). I think it's a quite rare choice in contemporary tv series soundtracks, where often pop & rock songs are used to artificially comment images. I compiled a Spotify playlist of all the commercial (non-original) music featured in the Lost series. It's a very eclectic collection, with pop, rock, jazz, classical, world, grunge... and even the Iraqi national anthem. I promise I will keep it updated, as long as the 6th season comes to end. If you want more info about Lost music, actual episodes where songs are played and sources (cd players, car radio, bars...) don't miss Lostpedia - The Lost Encyclopedia» (from the original Spotirama post).

The Bowlie Weekender Compilations (1999 & 2010)

Info: «The Bowlie Weekender was a music festival curated by Belle & Sebastian at the Pontin's Holiday camp in Camber Sands, Sussex between Friday 23rd and Sunday 25 April 1999. The event was the inspiration for All Tomorrow's Parties, a music festival held at the same venue in Sussex every year from 2000 until it moved to Butlin's Minehead in 2006. As part of the festival's tenth year celebrations, Belle & Sebastian was invited to curate an ATP weekend in December 2010, dubbed "Bowlie 2"» (from Wikipedia). These two playlists collect one song for each artist who played at the festivals. Most of the songs in the former playlist were published before or around 1999, most in the latter before or around 2010. Among the artists included: Belle & Sebastian (both playlists), Camera Obsucra (both), Crystal Castles (2010), The Flaming Lips (1999), Foals (2010), Franz Ferdinand (2010), Mercury Rev (1999), Sleater-Kinney (1999), Teenage Fanclub (both).

The iPod Playlist (songs from old Apple iPod commercials)

Info: «If iPod has been the symbol of digital music revolution, the iPod commercials have been a kind of visual soundtracks of the last decade. Flowing through tv and Web channels, they designed the world with a mix of bright colours, black silhouettes, white headphones, hip music and Apple cool touch. Many artists got a lot of visibility thanks to these ads, both established (Bob Dylan, U2, Eminem, Coldplay) and newcomers (Feist, Ting Tings, Bird and the Bee, Submarines). In this playlist, you can find a collection of that music» (from the original Spotirama post). 2010 playlist was based on Wikipedia. This one has been updated with infos found on AppleMusic.info, strictly selecting only iPod and iPod Touch related ads.

Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era, 1965–1968 (1972)

Info: «Compiled by rock critic and future Patti Smith Group guitarist Lenny Kaye, 1972's Nuggets was the anthology responsible for reviving interest in mid-'60s American garage rock. (...) The first CD reproduces, track-by-track, the original 27-song Nuggets, while the other three CDs add what may be considered 91 bonus tracks, from the biggest-selling garage hits ("Louie Louie," "Wooly Bully") to some cuts that only devout '60s specialists will know. All important permutations of the mid-'60s garage style are present: primitive fuzz, folk-rock, horn rock, psychedelic dementia, protest rock, etc. Major heroes the Music Machine, the Seeds, the Shadows of Knight, the Electric Prunes, the Standells, the Sonics, the Chocolate Watch Band, and many others are all represented, often by more than one song» (from an old All Music review).

Big Stars Play Big Star (a Spotify playlist)

Info: Originally (March 2010) this playlist was meant as tribute to Alex Chilton, mashing up covers of Box Tops, Big Star & solo songs, plus something more. It was compiled in a rather quick & messy way, few hours after Chilton's death. In 2016, the playlist morphed almost exclusively in a collection of well known artists (Elliott Smith, Counting Crows, Placebo, Jeff Buckley, Yo La Tengo, Afghan Whigs...) covering Big Star songs. With some little exceptions, at the end.

Each year, the Foundation picks some new inductees, in four different categories: performers, non-performers, early influences and lifetime achievement. Bittersweet Distractors (A Collection of Rare Radiohead Songs 1992-2005)

Info: Through their career, Radiohead have published dozens of songs out of the official albums. Bittersweet Distractors is an old fan-made collection, originally downloadable on MP3, which was designed right with the aim of putting a little order in the British band's discography (Collector's Editions of the oldest albums weren't out yet). It included seven discs: three collected unreleased b-sides from the first fifteen years of the band (the Capitol era), three were a sort of well-crafted "best of live", referring to the same era, while the last one collected b-sides songs from the post-Capitol and Web-oriented life of the band (webcasts, YouTube songs and other oddities). This is the Spotify version of the first three discs, collecting the entire Radiohead alternative discography from 1992 to 2005.
