Oscar Week Series 1: original songs nominees from 1934 to 1940

It's Oscar time!
Well, almost.
Next sunday Kodak Theatre will host the 82nd Academy Awards ceremony. Who will win the war of roses between James Cameron and Kathy Bigelow? Will the fantastic Fantastic Mr.Fox be able to defeat the rainbow balloons of Up? And who will get the statuette for the best original song? This last question gave me the idea for a new spoticinematic feature: a series of Spotify playlists dedicated to all the songs who have been nominated at the Oscar Awards. I found the full list on Wikipedia and I decided to follow the same decade division.

So this will be the schedule:
03/01 a playlist with songs nominated from 1934 to 1940.
03/02 songs from 1941 to 1950
03/03 songs from 1951 to 1960
03/04 songs from 1961 to 1970
03/05 songs from 1971 to 1980
03/06 songs from 1981 to 1990
03/07 songs from 1991 to 2000
03/08 songs from 2001 to 2009 (with kudos to the 2009 winner!)

Some words about the choice of the songs. As you know, Spotify is a lovely jungle, especially when you dig into its old-time catalogue. Most of the movie songs from the 30s have become musical standards, played and covered by billions of jazzists, crooners, easy-listening orchestras, chanteuses, etc. etc. Who has NOT sung and recorded at least one Over the Rainbow take? In the "official " Oscar Week Spotirama selection I decided to allow only the actual original versions, taken from the movies they were nominated for. That meant sacrificing many famous songs available on Spotify, but of which I didn't find the original version. That also meant building a pure vintage playlist, with actual voices, dialogues and exquisite bad audio from Hollywood classics. Maybe listening to it is not the most pleasant ear-sensation of the world, but it gives you a strange feeling of timetravelling. It's like a voyage back through time and celluloid.
Btw, if you don't want to timetravel so much, an alternative playlist will come later.

The Playlist
(24 out of 40 songs, 60%, 1.4 hours)
Including: Fred Astaire's Cheek To Cheek from Top Hat (1935), Judy Garland's Over the Rainbow from Wizard of Oz (1939), When You Wish Upon a Star from Pinocchio (1940), Louis Armstrong's Jeepers Creepers from Going Places (1938), Bing Crosby's Pennies From Heaven from Pennies From Heaven (1936) and many more.
Missing in action: no Oscar-winning songs from 1934 to 1940 are missing. Few nominees, especially from year 1938 and year 1940.
Playing order: chronological.
Listen to it on Spotify: HTTP link, URI. (SR0014)
